Staff Picks

Be sure to arrive early and consult with our staff of Cabot Trail experts who are on-hand and ready to provide you with all the details of their top picks:

Cheticamp Island Lighthouse

Our staff recommend that you explore Cheticamp Island and it’s spectacular views of the village of Cheticamp and the Cabot Trail.  The lighthouse provides a great photo opportunity.  We do recommend you drive carefully though – this area is used for free range cattle.  Leave yourself extra time to moove around this island!

Skyline Trail – Hiking Trail – Cape Breton Highlands National Park

This 7 km hiking path leads to a look-off that offers on of the most spetacular ocean views in North America!!!  Trust us on this one!  From moose to eagles to whales - you have a good chance to see it all here.  We highly recommend you make time for this stop on your Cabot Trail Experience!

Chimney Corner  Beach – Chimney Corner

A unique beach and rock climbing and exploring experience.  Not too far from Margaree you’ll find the Chimney Corner Beach.  A great place to watch the sun set or take the kids for a day of fun on a sandy beach and exploring the rocky caves nearby!

La Bella Mona Lisa – St Joseph du Moine

“Whimsicle and enchanting works of art” is what you’ll find here.  A unique gallery/craft shop featuring original paintings and textiles made by local artists, as well as ceramics, stained glass, and woodworking. Each piece is chosen for its beauty and excellent craftsmanship, as well as the one-of-a-kind quality it possesses.

Bog Walk Hiking Trail – Cape Breton Highland National Park

We've picked this hiking trail for 2 reasons:

    1) It is totally accessible!  A boardwalk covered 0.5km (15 minute) hike keeps your toes dry.  Whether you are pushing a stroller or travelling by wheelchair - this hiking trail is for all!

    2)  There is a GREAT chance to see moose on this trail.  As well as orchids, dragonflies, and frogs.  But moose are definitely our favourite!!!

Uisge Ban Falls

A great hike with an awe inspiring finish!  This hiking trail is about 6km return and is well kept, located just outside of Baddeck.  Uisge Ban is Gaelic for "white water" and you'll find out why!  Beautiful waterfalls over 50 feet high!  An easy enough hike - take the kids!!!
